Our Approach & Expertise
Hammond Electroacoustics delivers research-backed consultancy, combining advanced acoustic modelling, auralisation, and system optimisation. As an independent electroacoustic design expert, we work closely with clients to ensure each system balances compliance, performance, and functionality. Key areas of expertise include:
Applied Research Integration
Practical application of PhD findings to real-world systems, ensuring solutions exceed baseline standards. This approach connects laboratory research to real-world installations, ensuring innovation translates into measurable performance benefits.
Predictive Acoustic Modelling
Simulations for stadia, arenas, cathedrals, transport terminals and more. By anticipating how sound behaves in complex venues, we help architects, engineers and operators make confident design decisions early in a project.
PAVA System Design & Compliance
Guidance on BS 5839-8, BS EN 54, BS 7827, BS 60268 and safety-critical applications. Our consultancy ensures every design is aligned with UK and international safety standards, reducing risk.
Speech Transmission Index (STI) & Intelligibility Assessment
Specialist evaluation of STI measurement nuances and occupancy effects. Beyond measurement, we advise on strategies to improve clarity, including system tuning, loudspeaker choice and room treatment options.

Dr Ross Hammond – Independent Electroacoustic Consultant
Biography – Hammond Electroacoustics is led by Dr. Ross Hammond, a PhD-qualified electroacoustician specialising in speech intelligibility and sound system design for large or acoustically complex environments. With over a decade of experience in both research and applied projects, Ross combines academic rigour with hands-on expertise to optimise clarity, compliance, and performance in venues where sound is critical. His PhD research included pioneering methods to predict how audience occupancy affects intelligibility and acoustics, a significant factor mostly overlooked in traditional system design and validation. This unique combination of academic insight and consultancy experience positions Ross as a trusted authority in PAVA design, speech intelligibility, and electroacoustic system optimisation.
Credentials – PhD in electroacoustics, MSc in Audio Engineering, member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA), member of the Institute of Sound, Communications and Visual Engineers (MInstSCVE), project leader of IEC 60268-16, published research cited in BS 7827 and IEC 60268-16, designer of the largest PAVA system in the UK.
